Offgassing is the gradual release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) from materials and objects into the surrounding air. It is not an accident. Sustainability is often spoken about, but rarely understood in full. In the context of interiors, architecture, materials, and the objects that shape our environments, sustainability is not a trend or a checklist — it is a way of thinking that considers impact across time, place, and people.

For years, sustainability conversations in design have been dominated by a single metric: carbon footprint. While emissions accounting has value, it represents only a fragment of the impact design decisions create over time.
