THE COMMON THREAD

Thread is among humanity's oldest technologies and one of its most enduring metaphors. Long before writing systems, woven textiles, knotted cords, braided fibres, and coloured threads carried information, recorded histories, marked transitions, signalled identity, and expressed relationships between people, place, and belief. Thread held garments together, but it also held stories, communities, and systems of knowledge together.
