THE QUIET DISTINCTION THAT DEFINES WORTH
There is a subtle, yet consequential distinction embedded within the language of design: artist, artisan, maker, craftsperson, technician, vendor. Each term appears descriptive, neutral, even. Yet in practice, they carry vastly different implications: authorship, quality, worth, visibility, compensation, respect, dignity, and of oppression, and appropriation.
