What designers are rarely told - and what we can do differently.
Insider Insight challenges common assumptions in materials, sustainability, and specification. It exposes overlooked risks, incomplete narratives, and greenwashed claims - offering designers and decision-makers clearer questions to ask and deeper context to consider. The focus is not on trends, but on truth, transparency, and long-term consequences.
THE THINGS COLOUR DOES
We tend to think of colour as something we see, select, and place. But colour is far less fixed than it appears. A colour that appears perfectly resolved in one setting can become something else entirely in another. Even our own eyes are not neutral observers. The more closely we look, the less colour behaves like a consistent property—and the more it begins to reveal itself as a relationship between light, matter, perception, environment, and experience. Look again.
“CARBON-NEUTRAL” IS AN INSUFFICIENT DESIGN BRIEF
Carbon neutrality is frequently presented as the ultimate sustainability benchmark, yet it is fundamentally an accounting mechanism rather than a full material assessment.
This is a living system. It will grow deliberately.
